What is Alzheimer’s disease?

The most common form of dementia among older people is Alzheimer’s disease, which eventually involves the parts of the brain that controls thought, memory and language.

It is estimated that greater than 5 million in North America suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease begins slowly. At first, the only symptom may be mild forgetfulness, which can be confused with normal ageing process.

Scientists do not yet fully understand what causes Alzheimer’s disease and there is no known cure.
