3 Tips for Landscaping Around Your AC Installation in Plainview, TX

The immediate area around your air conditioner’s outdoor unit will greatly influence how the system as a whole ends up performing. Thus, if you want to stay cool this summer, you’ll need to think about your landscaping habits. Here are three landscaping tips to help you optimize your AC installation in Plainview, TX:

Give the AC Installation Some Room

Debris can fly into your outdoor AC unit from a variety of sources, among which nearby plants are a major one. Seeds, pollen, leaves and other parts of surrounding plant life may catch a stray breeze and fly into your outdoor unit, impeding your whole AC system’s functioning. This is why we recommend keeping a distance of at least five feet between your AC installation and the nearest flowers, trees or other plants in your yard.

Moreover, leaving this kind of room will give HVAC service technicians space to operate. It’ll make performing AC maintenance and air conditioning repairs easier.

Put Up a Fence Around the Air Conditioner

As a further precaution against projectiles and debris, erect a fence around your outdoor unit. Because of its sturdiness and the fact that water tends to flow off of it, a stone barrier would be ideal, but even a wooden fence can provide some protection. We don’t recommend using a chain-link fence because dirt and plant seeds can move between the links.

Keep Your AC System Out of the Sun

To minimize the risk that your AC installation will overheat this summer, we strongly advise you to place the outdoor unit somewhere in the shade and out of the direct path of sunlight. If this isn’t possible, try to build some sort of artificial source of shade that can loom over the unit. Doing so will likely make your AC installation more efficient and decrease your energy costs over the long run.

AC-friendly landscaping can be easy, provided that you follow some simple advice. It can certainly help to keep your air conditioner out of trouble. If you still run into issues, call Integra Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning to request our superior AC services.
